England: Wintertime in the Cotswolds

Favourite Experiences:

  • Indulging in afternoon tea at Huffkins in Burford
  • Exploring the pretty village of Bourton-on-the-Water
  • Getting snowed in to a gorgeous AirBnB in Aston Magna

My sixth visit to the UK happened to be during one of the worst snowstorms that England had seen in years! “The Beast from the East”, as it was nicknamed, made travelling around the Cotswolds pretty difficult at times (shoutout to my partner for doing an excellent job driving through the snow!). But, the storm also created a picturesque blanket of snow over the charming villages of Stow-on-the-Wold, Upper and Lower Slaughter, and Burford.

My partner and I drove around the Cotswolds. If you’re comfortable driving on the left side of the road, I’d definitely say that car is the way to go as it can be difficult to get in between the villages of the Cotswolds without one. However, there are a variety of different day tours from both London and Bath that can help you explore the Cotswolds without your own car.

I got snowed in to a beautiful one-bedroom loft conversion AirBnB in the small village of Aston Magna. This location provided a great base for exploring the Cotswolds. We started our tour in the village of Stow-on-the-Wold where we explored the shops and had a lovely lunch at The Old Butchers. We visited Bourton-on-the-Water and walked along the village’s scenic canals. We stopped in Upper Slaughter and Lower Slaughter to admire the quintessential Cotswolds limestone architecture. Finally, we toured the pretty town of Burford and had an excellent afternoon tea at Huffkins Burford. As we left the Cotswolds, we stopped at the Cotswolds Woollen Weavers, a gorgeous wool shop and museum, and picked up a souvenir; a beautiful chevron wool blanket made from Cotswolds sheep’s wool.

The Cotswolds is such a beautiful part of England at any time of the year! And there are many more villages that I’d love to explore. I’d definitely recommend a trip to the Cotswolds on your next vacation in the UK! Below are some of my favourite photos from my visit to the Cotswolds:
